Elves

Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light, where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. Elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world.
Elves’ long lives give them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, elves can be focused and relentless. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and to serious insults with vengeance.
Elves take up adventuring out of wanderlust. Since they are so long-lived, they can enjoy centuries of exploration and discovery. They dislike the pace of human society, which is regimented from day to day but constantly changing over decades, so they find careers that let them travel freely and set their own pace.

Drow
(Application Only)
Dark, twisted elves with obsidian skin as dark as their hearts, drow are known for their cruelty and seclusion in the Underdark. Hated and feared for their ways, drow thrives in subtlety and aggression, often visiting the surface to find sacrifices for their rituals. Known for their Matriarchal society, they live and breathe to satisfy the whims of Lolth, the mistress of webs and lies. While some non-evil drows exist, they are rare; when found, often sacrificed to Lolth or perish to the dangers of the underground as they attempt to leave.

High Elf
High elves, also sometimes known as Eladrin, were graceful warriors and wizards who originated from the realm of Faerie, also known as the Feywild. They lived in the forests of the world. They were magical in nature and shared an interest in the arcane arts. From an early age, they learned to defend themselves, particularly with swords. Occasionally the term “noble Eladrin” was used to denote more powerful variants, who had become so infused with the magic of the Feywild that they took on the characteristics of natural phenomena such as seasons.

Shadar-kai
Shadar-kai are elves of the Shadowfell, originally drawn to that dread realm by the Raven Queen. Over the centuries, some of them have continued to serve her, while others have ventured into the Material Plane to forge their own destinies. Once shadar-kai were Fey like the rest of their elven kin; now they exist in a state between life and death, thanks to being transformed by the Shadowfell’s grim energy.
Shadar-kai have ashen skin tones, and while they’re in the Shadowfell, they also become wizened, reflecting the somber nature of that gloomy plane.

Wood Elf
Wood elves, also known as copper elves, or Or-tel-quessir were the most populous of the elven races. Wood elves saw themselves as guardians of the Tel-quessir forest homes that were largely abandoned after the Crown Wars and before the Retreat, but unlike most elves, they did not view themselves as a people apart from the rest of Faerûn. Accustomed to a harsh, naturalistic lifestyle, wood elves loved to wear leather armor, even when they were not under immediate threat.

Avariel
(Application Only)
The Avariel were among the first of the elf races to migrate to Faerûn. However, conflict with dragons almost wiped them out before the First Flowering and while they survived since that time, they were considered by most to be myths or legends. Avariel were more delicate than their earth-bound cousins, with hollow bones to aid their flight. They had pale skin, often porcelain white. An avariel’s wings were usually white, but could be black, brown, or speckled. Avariel society was split into two groups that coexisted together, labeled ‘warlike’ and ‘peaceful’. Young Avariel spent time immersed in both cultures so they had a deep understanding and respect of how the other half lived.

Fey Eladrin
The fey eladrin were the most powerful of the eladrin, a subrace of elves who adopted the Feywild as their home. Sometimes called noble eladrin, they were capable of changing their physical appearance and powers according to their mood, assuming characteristics of the seasons. Their hair and skin colors changed to reflect their moods, which could each be identified to a particular season of the year. How frequently eladrin changed their appearance was an individual choice. Some eladrin spent their entire lives in the same season or followed the seasons of the place where they lived, while others could change as frequently as once per day.
