Factions
Direct Links
Choose one, choose all!… Well, choose one.
Factions are organizations composed of like-minded individuals to further and protect their interests, and initially led by DMs, with the opportunity to become player-led.
Note: Factions are RP avenues for players with similar interests to band together in a group outside their personal clans. There are no mechanical benefits to them other than the flavor of RP they can provide. Each faction’s Leader will have a persistent ticket open with the DM/Staff team to ensure that facilitation of RP is done in a way that is enjoyable for everyone.
Players may only be in one faction at a time.

THE GRAND COUNCIL
Nerds trying to be elegant
The death of King Imbrar left Impiltur without an heir. This resulted in the rule of the land passing to the Grand Council, a council of noble lords, ladies, and land owners who strived to uphold the King’s Law. The Grand Council struggled for some time to establish order in the wake of the King’s passing and faced many trials, the greatest of which was war, brought to Impiltur from the foreign tyrant Malakan. While the bloody war would divide Impiltur and weaken the strength of the Council, many praised their handling of the conflict and the eventual peace that was won. However, a great many turned away from the Council, blaming them for the tremendous loss to Impiltur.
Today, the Grand Council stand for honour and order, vowing to uphold the King’s Law and to restore Impiltur as a stable and prosperous land. To stand with them is to align with their altruistic ways and to value law and order. Following years of fighting and historic grievances, the Grand Council has grown to distrust a number of species and as such forbids their acceptance into the Council.

THE TRUE HEIRS OF IMBRAR
Nobles and their flare

The True Heirs of Imbrar emerged soon after the death of King Imbrar, and brought with them claims of a living heir – Queen Imbrielle. Yet these claims were shut down quickly by the Grand Council, dismissing them as falsehoods and acts of treason, resulting in the death of many who fervently defended the claims. Yet in secret, the True Heirs began to spread their influence throughout Impiltur, sowing their claim of a rightful queen in the minds of many of Impiltur’s downtrodden.
Their prominence grew significantly during the Malakan War, which allowed them to gather even more followers in the wake of the bloodshed. Today, the True Heirs are known for their cunning, ruthlessness, and determination, vowing to restore the royal line of Impiltur with their Queen. To stand with them is to align with their methods and desire to place Queen Imbrielle upon the empty Impilturan throne. Given their methods and secrecy, some races are distrusted and, as such, forbidden from becoming a True Heir.
WARBAND OF ARATHON
War… War never Changes
The Warband of Arathon was at first seen as a band of lawless savages who rose in prominence following Malakan’s War – but rumours that the Warband were responsible for killing Malakan were seen as an act of strength which attracted many to their forces. The Warband does not stand for law, they do not stand for order; they are driven by strength and strength alone, all for a single goal – to conquer Impiltur.
Today, the Warband has continued to grow in numbers and has conquered the isle of Arathon in the South, where many free folk who value strength have flocked to join their cause. To stand with the Warband is to oppose the legacy of Impiltur and to seek to carve a new future for this land – one where only the strongest rule. As a result of this, the Warband only accepts races deemed to be strong; certain races are therefore forbidden from joining and are often met with violence.

Do I have to join a faction?
Yes. This is part of the Character Creation process. However! You are free to engage as much (or as little) with your chosen faction as you wish. This is most important for deciding where you will want to set up your base.
Why must I join a faction?
As you create your character, you must consider more than their external looks, of course! What are their outlooks on life? What are their opinions on the civil war raging in Impiltur?
If you are a citizen of Impiltur, you’ll likely have a reason to pick a side. If you are a visitor, you’ll likely have formed an opinion on which side suits your values best and where you’ll live your best life. And if you want to be factionless, that IS an option! Whoever wanted to play life on easy mode?
Why are certain races forced to join a certain faction?
We have taken time to consider your feedback regarding conflict and alignments. To make sure that certain races don’t get forced to act outside of their alignment, we have “locked” these races to their factions to match their alignment the best. Plus, what’s Roleplay without a bit of conflict?
Are there perks to joining a faction?
This will allow you access to a catacomb “fast travel” tunnel network, allowing you to traverse your faction’s land.
Must I live in my factions territory? What if I’m not aligned to any faction?
No! You can live anywhere, including the only part of Impiltur which is not controlled by the factions: the snowy north. If you are part of a different faction than the one controlling the lands you settle in however, your neighbors might not take kindly to that…
Do I have to engage in the faction based roleplay?
No, but we strongly encourage that you do.
Can I sabotage a faction?
You may not join a faction to sabotage them. This is something we’ve seen before, and we discourage it as it’s not enjoyable to see people purposefully acting against the efforts of others.
Can I spy on another faction and report back to my own faction?
You can indeed! But prepare for consequences if you are caught.
Can I play all sides of the faction war?
Yes, but you’ll not be guaranteed to succeed. Mechanically speaking, you can only join one. And remember: there are consequences to all actions!
Can I choose a faction at a later stage when I’ve had a chance to engage with the factions? How do I do that?
You must join a faction at the start. However, you may change factions later on by opening a DM ticket. There, you may explain your reasoning for changing factions.
Can my race, which isn’t accepted by a certain faction, try to join that faction through RP?
Yes. This will require significant RP on your part, and keep in mind that there are no guarantees.
